SNEAK PREVIEW!

A glimpse of Kathryn’s new show Red Hot and Betty!
She’ll review the life and the songs of the great Betty Hutton in an evening devoted
to a truly great dancing, singing comedienne — here, with pianist Sheldon Forrest
and Tom Hubbard (New York City) or Dr. Gordon Lewis (Kansas State University) on bass,
is a preview of her upcoming exploration of Betty’s famous treats as well as
an excavation of some wonderful (and sadly) out-of-print jewels:

Kathryn Allyn, headshotKathryn Allyn takes part in tremendously varied musical ventures: While at the cabaret, she is most influenced by Jo Stafford, Peggy Lee and Dinah Shore, she nevertheless turned, in debut appearances at New York City’s Metropolitan Room, to the singer-songwriters of her childhood: Joni Mitchell, Don McLean, Randy Newman and James Taylor in her review You Can Go Home Again: Songs My Father Taught Me.

In 2010, Kathryn made her way back to her hometown of Junction City, Kansas and its newly renovated 1880-vintage C. L. Hoover Opera House for a presentation of a season of native sons and daughters. Kathryn gave Two Steps Forward, One Look Back, songs of the American West: The Kingston Trio, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson and Arlo Guthrie, arranged for piano and bass by Sheldon Forrest and Kansas State University professor of jazz, Gordon Lewis. Earlier this year, she returned to The Metropolitan Room, where she visited the song’n’dance men of the WWII years, in her review of beautifully re-imagined and masterfully rendered classics by New York City’s noted jazz pianist Sheldon Forrest, and featuring Tom Hubbard on bass.
